St. George Football Association (SGFA) is excited to confirm that Sydney FC is expanding its commitment across the Sydney football community in a Hyundai A-League club first, by appointing 6 fan development officers across each of the club’s major regions within its footprint, including the St George region.

This huge investment in the club’s community strategy aims to grow the Sky Blues fanbase through increased local touchpoints over the coming years, with a key focus of the partnership looking at fostering relationships with the local football fraternity, helping junior player development and developing fans for the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League.

The exciting expansion allows the Sky Blues to partner with SGFA to run community-based holiday clinics and skills training programs at some of our premium local venues. This partnership gives each of the SGFA local clubs year-round access to high quality skills development, as well as a direct link and contact to the country’s biggest Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League club via the newly appointed fan development officer.

SGFA Chief Executive Officer Craig Kiely welcomed the expanded partnership with Sydney FC.

“I am delighted to introduce Billy Kirk as the Sydney FC Fan Development Officer for the St George region.”  Kiely said.

“Billy is a local guy who has been involved as a player, coach and committee member at his local club, Carss Park, and also as part of the SGFA’s development program for a number of years now.”

“We congratulate Sydney FC in not only recognising the importance of investing in their community strategy but importantly aligning with their local Associations to implement it through a broad range of programs and initiatives.” Kiely stated.

Sydney FC’s St George based development officer will oversee the club’s programs within SGFA to develop relationships at a club level and also with local schools.

Furthermore, they’ll deliver a range of opportunities for the participants of the game within SGFA at Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League games, and throughout the club’s football season, including links to the Sydney FC elite pathways.

Kirk, who commenced in his role last week, is delighted to be part of the Sydney FC and SGFA family and is looking forward to working closely with the local grassroots football community.

“I am incredibly excited to be able to work with both the SGFA and Sydney FC in this new role and to build some really strong relationships with all our local clubs.” Kirk said.

“Over the next few weeks I will be contacting the clubs to build relationships and discuss the opportunities to develop and grow the game in our region.” Kirk said.

Sydney FC Chief Executive Officer Danny Townsend hailed the expansion and welcomed the Sky Blues’ new fan development officers.

“Sydney FC have a strong focus on our football community and this expansion will allow us to further foster our relationships on a daily basis,” he said.

“We’ve nurtured a number of young footballers at our successful Holiday Clinics and Skills Training programs already, these appointments will allow us to expand on that and provide us with the opportunity to deliver even more football programs to the grassroots which down the track will generate a new generation of Sky Blue fans for the club.

“We want Netstrata Jubilee Stadium filled with Sky Blue Members and this community program commitment will go a long way to fulfilling that.”
