The inaugural St George Cup has been hailed a huge success by the St George Football Association.
The 6-a-side event was staged last Wednesday and Thursday at the iconic Netstrata Jubilee Stadium and provided players, coaches and families a unique opportunity to experience playing at one of Sydney’s premium sports facilities.
47 teams entered the event which was split across 2 days, with the Under 9 and Under 10 boys playing on day 1 and the Under 11 Boys, Under 12 Girls and Under 12 Boys on day 2.
The event attracted SAP level players from St George, Illawarra, North Sydney, Manly, Western Sydney as well as advanced level players from local grassroots competitions. The standard of play was extremely high and provided an opportunity for players to test themselves in a fun and competitive day during the school holiday period.
St George FA was extremely pleased to also provide an Under 12 girls competition featuring teams from St George and the Sutherland Shire.
The event was blessed with beautiful weather and DJ Daniel Coelho added to the atmosphere by laying down some fresh beats throughout the competition. Players were also able to get up close and personal to both the W-League and A-League Champions trophies thanks to Sydney FC.
St George FA vision is for the St George Cup to build into one of the premier youth football events in the state and country and based on the success of the first tournament it is well on the way.
